Personal:

I have always run to keep in shape but before last year hadn't ever run more than 6 miles in my life.  It all started when RAD got me signed up to do Ragnar.  I didn't want to make a fool of myself, so I started doing more distance.  I found I really like having something to work for in my running.  Now that my 4 kids are getting older, I finally feel like I have the time to commit to training for a marathon.

I remember RAD telling me about a running blog, so I tried to find it and typed in running blog and a few others and I couldn't find it.  I asked her again, and she said it was the "fast" running blog.  So I don't know if I really belong with the "FAST" running blog, but I made it into the St George Marathon, and I am looking for a few running friends to train with.  This will be my first marathon, and I am actually curious to see if my body can withstand the pressure put upon it with the training.  Those of you who run several marathons a year, I am in awe of you and also think you are absolutely nuts!  I am definitely trying to get under 4 hours, and am considering trying to make it under the 3:45 that qualifies me for Boston.  I know I have run with a few of you (Tom Slick we did the SL half together, and I know I have run with Smooth with RAD last year).  I was wondering if PaulRiverton is my dental friend that saw me on the trail?  I am wondering what kind of groups do longer weekend runs? I figure the only way I will make it through 3 hour runs is if I have someone to talk to, because I get rather bored after mile 7 by myself and my music.  So give me some feed back on a good run this weekend-Thanks

You're in the right place. RAD is pretty rad. Smooth is pretty smooth. And Tom Slick is pretty slick. Actually, I've never interacted with Tom, but he seems nice. I think Riverton Paul is a lawyer. Hope you enjoy the blog!

WELCOME to the blog! I don't really belong to the *fast*runningblog either! Runners are very good at lying especially during long runs! You're in the right place if you wanna run long and tell big lies! :)

Refresh my feeble memory, where and when did we run together last year? That's another pre-requisite for group run, bad memories which is a good quality to have with running, trust me! :)

Smooth-we ran the porter rockwell trail last year in the spring, and there was another older guy with us, but I can't remember his name. I remember your name because you said you got it from your smooth legs:). I am RAD's sister in law.

Burt-thanks for the welcome. Maybe we can run together some time.

Welcome to the blog! It is always better to run with friends!

From Missee on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 13:47:41 from 173.14.225.246

Welcome! The "fast" part is relatively speaking! There are some runners on here that are incredibly fast.....but running is an individual sport. You will become fast compared to what you used to be...........at least that is what I tell myself! :)

From Smooth on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 17:50:30 from 174.23.172.155

OK, I remember that run now. It was the Sat before Ogden...so almost a year ago to the date. That was a fun run on Porter Rockwell.

All the kidding aside...I am so glad you're blogging your runs/training here. It really helps to keep track of all the miles and workouts. This is a great community of runners, all size, shape and speed. As Missee said, FAST is all relative.

NICE to have you on board! Have a great week!

Welcome to the blog!

Your goal for the St George marathon is about the same as mine. Who knows, maybe we'll meet up (among all the other 1000's of runners there! :))

I'm not in a group, but usually do my long run on the weekend. I like going down Holladay Blvd in SL (and I see MANY runners out there) and staying on the east side where there are plenty of hills to add to the miles. That's sure to keep you from getting bored!

Good luck!

My 10 yr old son looses stamina in his soccer games, so I told him to run with me.  We ran the first mile at 9 minutes, he walked/ran the second while I ran ahead and did a 8 min mile, and the third we ran together with a few short walks at about 9.5 min miles.  I want him to run with me, but it is hard to keep the slower pace.

ran a little more distance today.  I wore my new shoes the Brooks adrenaline.  My left knee hurts a little today.  I ran on the Jordan River trail, and went as far south until it ends.  about 9400 S.  It was great weather, but I did get a little bored by myself.

Had a hard time on last mile, because of knee problems.  Had to even stop and walk for about half a mile.  Before that I averaged 8:30. but that last one and a half was more like 15 minute miles.  I wonder if the slant of the road I was running on is what aggravated it.

YAY! I'm glad you're finally on here. You know Tom is going to call you 'sunshine', right? :)

I think you're right about the slant of the road. That is why many people simply run the JRP - alleviates the need to run on the 'wrong' side of the road.

Nice mileage today, keep up the hard work and you'll definitely kick it at SGM!!

After knee problems on Fri, I was worried I would still be hurting, but we did a little hiking yesterday and I was okay, so I ran 4 today, and did just fine.  I averaged 8:34.  On the first 2 the wind was with me and I did 8:09 and 8:12.  On the way back I had the wind against me and it brought my average down.

It looks like you are really getting into running. Before long you will be running 1/2 marathons 8 months pregnant just like your sister-in-law. Great job with all the running.

I thought maybe after my break from running my knee would be all better. Still feeling jammed up.  Maybe I'll have to go see a physical therapist!

Seeing a PT would be a good idea if it's still bugging. I know a few good ones if you need some suggestions.

How was Moab? Did you guys do just Arches or other hikes as well?

How are things going this last week? Knee any better?

From readyornot on Thu, Jun 17, 2010 at 18:05:45 from 174.23.81.121

Still having knee problems, who is your PT?

From RAD on Fri, Jun 18, 2010 at 12:50:15 from 67.172.229.125

Joel Nuttal at TOSH (the old Cottonwood Hospital). If you call the main number you can ask for him.

When and were does your knee hurt?

From readyornot on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 16:11:56 from 174.23.81.121

My knee hurts underneath, and towards the bottom inside. When I do shorter runs, I'll just notice it occasionally, but on the longer runs, it starts about mile 6-7 and persists the rest of the time. This last weekend for my 10 miler, I wrapped it with an ace bandage, and it felt okay the whole time, but the next 36 hours it felt stiff when I was going up and down stairs etc. What do you know about knee injuries? I finally made an appt with a PT. I am worried if i keep putting it off, it will get too close to the St George marathon (my first-if I can actually do it), and I won't be able to run. Does anyone know about knee injuries? it doesn't feel like the IT band, so I don't know....

ran 10 but at about mile 6 my knee bothered me for 2 miles, and then the last 2 was okay.  I did the porter rockwell trail.

Tom Slick is looking to run there tomorrow if you're interested in joining him!

Nice work on working through the pain - I hope that it starts to subside or you can figure out what is wrong!
